2008 Conference Plans and Changes
YA’ll
COME ! ! ! ! Consider this your very special invitation to Conference August 9 -10 in Blacksburg at the Skelton Center - The Inn at Virginia Tech. Southwestern District will hostess and what will hopefully be an enjoyable weekend is being planned for you! Your state
officers and newly formed team of state chairmen are also working to
provide an interesting and informative experience for participants. We’re very excited and pleased that GFWC
President Dr. Rose Ditto of Kansas has accepted our invitation to
attend Conference! She
will be the banquet speaker and has also agreed to present a
workshop so you won’t want to miss that! Your evaluations told us that you wanted more
workshops so we’re planning maximum training time.
You will notice some changes from our traditional schedule to
provide the option of additional workshop time slots. We’ve asked you to help us have an idea of
potential attendance at the various workshops being offered so that
we can plan appropriately.
You will note on the registration form spaces to select your
choices of workshops from those listed (on the agenda) at the 5
different time slots.
If you choose, you will actually be able to attend
5 different
workshops throughout the weekend!
As many or as few as you desire – the choice will be yours. We will certainly be highlighting our State
Project while on the campus at VA Tech – the raising of funds for a
Traumahawk rescue vehicle for the VA Tech Rescue Squad. Kathy Planthaber, GFWC VA LEADS participant,
will share with us her experiences from the seminar at the GFWC
Convention in Chicago in June. Another change is the charging of a “package
fee” rather than the customary separate charges for registration and
meal events. The
contract required that we purchase a meeting package and we, in
turn, must charge you, our attendees, for a total meeting package as
well. I know none of us
like change, but I am confident that we can adapt to this necessary
alteration of our accustomed procedure. You may recall the continuous refreshment bar
at Convention in Roanoke – we hope you will utilize this mandatory
availability of snacks and beverages.
This will be there for you upon your midday arrival on
Saturday before the start of the meeting and continue for most of
the afternoon and again on Sunday. So make plans now to join us August 9 – 10!
Complete and mail your registration form and make that hotel
reservation before leaving on vacation.
We look forward to seeing you in Blacksburg. Emma Jean & Lori |
